The Furnace Used for the Second Toledo Workshop in June 1962
The equipment used during the first workshop in March 1962 underwent several changes and modifications while the class was underway. When the glass workshop was offered again in June 1962, a modified furnace was used. Drawings of this second furnace were produced and distributed in a workshop report. The burner was designed by Dominick Labino and modified by Clayton Bailey. These diagrams were influential for the nascent field of studio glass, and individual glass artists made further modifications to the design to suit their own needs. Aside from the lack of an arch, these plans are very similar to what will be built for the 2012 Toledo Workshop Revisited furnace.
